What is an ADU?
An ADU is a secondary living unit installed on the same lot as a main home — often craned into place.
ADUs serve multiple purposes, including generating rental income, accommodating family members or increasing property value. Governor Healey’s Affordable Homes Act (Section 8 of Chapter 150, signed August 6, 2024) amended zoning laws to allow ADUs up to 900 sq. ft. by right in single-family zones, as long as they meet local regulations.
